What Can I Do?

I don't want to face the aftermath
The ruins a fabricated, pointless war
I shouldn’t have to, but what can I do?
I can only vote and pray.
And maybe twitter is a biased view
Into the minds of angry zealots
Because what’s fun in reading people
With average, calm, people thoughts -
Not red enough for the algorithm,
Not disputed enough to amuse,
Not fierce enough, they’re like me.
But what can I do?
I can do my nightly skincare
And pretend my world isn’t burning.
But I can’t live plagued with extremism
Governed and curbed by the rule-book -
The reverberations of a colonial blunder,
Of covering knees and colourless gender roles
And division. Oh, the division!
How it’s still rampant, crown to commander.
Smart enough to be self-aware
Helpless enough to cause little dent.
Ignorance is bliss, but at what cost?
Intellect saves you, the price is peace,
And what’s the point? I can revolutionise
I can scream faintly, it’ll be a nightmare.
If only we knew enough
If only we weren’t so swayed
If only we weren’t so emotional
If only we wouldn’t follow blind
If only – because someone will pay.
But what can I do? I can merely
Cherish what’s left of grass,
Eat before food runs out,
Drink before water dries up;
And kiss my kitty's forehead
And hug my dear ones and pray
We don’t pay for our downfall.
